I really like this song. What drew me to it initially was the beautiful cinematography in the the MV.

So I decided to translate it:

“Soul Mates”

If you are a gust of spring wind

Then I must be a faraway kite

If you are a tightly locked door along a  long-tang*

I am a vine outside the door

If you are a rainbow rarely ever glimpsed

Then I am a willing pedestrian, crying out in awe

If you are a star I wish for but cannot reach

Then I am the expression one makes when they gaze upon the stars

But you chose to be an ordinary person

And thus a person I could fall in love with

Willingly my soul, trapped in this body,

Can only beg to connect with yours.

But as it turns out, you are the most ordinary person.

To see such beauty, yet the heart can still be so foolish

My hands bump against yours

Shoulders brush against yours

But our souls just won’t connect

When you are the hand of the clock that won’t stop ticking

I am the secret gears pushing you on behind the scenes

You are the blue ink drop from a pen that has yet to dry out

I am the scar left on the back of the paper

In the end you chose to be an ordinary person

And not someone who could love me

It doesn’t matter if my soul is trapped in any ole body

We are doomed to never connect

In the end I am an ordinary person

Everything is clear and yet my heart can hurt so much

We laughed together and talked about matters of the heart

But our souls dared not connect

*Apparently a 弄堂 (long tang; pictured below) is a Shanghai version of a 胡同, which are a very specific type of Beijing-northern Chinese style alleyway/connect neighboorhoods with their own historical architectural and cultural value. Simply put, the feel of a hutong / long tang is bit different compared what English speakers might image had I chose to translate 弄堂 as an alleyway
